Openforum Academy website
Openforum Academy is an independent not for profit organization, connected to OpenForum Europe (OFE) – which facilitates new thinking, research, publishes papers, runs briefings etc in close partnership with academia.
OFE is a not-for-profit industry organization which was originally launched in 2002 to accelerate and broaden the use of Open Source Software (OSS) among businesses, consumers and governments. OFE's role has since evolved and its primary role now is to promote the use of open standards in ICT as a means of achieving full openness and interoperability of computer systems throughout Europe. It continues to promote open source software, as well as openness more generally as part of a vision to facilitate open, competitive choice for IT users.
OFA aims to create a community of like-minded individuals from academia and the computer industry, whose thoughts and actions will inspire policy makers both within business and government and serve as a catalyst for the ongoing move towards open computing. It provides a platform for fresh research and actively encourages the next generation of computer scientists to participate in the building of a computer industry free of the closed, locked in ways that have dominated computing in the past.
We fully shares OFA goals and objectives, in particular related to web standards and open source software and is glad to be the tecnical partner for all OFE and OFA developments.
OFA is structured like a specialized think tank, with a panel of Fellows steering research. It has four main activities:
-
commissioning fresh, high quality research;
-
running discussions on hot topics;
-
running competitions aimed primarily at engaging undergraduates;
-
and building a library of relevant research material.
The website of OFA having a central role in dissemination of the results, visibility of the activities of OFA and running discussions.
The development is based on Plone, and allows the publication of articles, research, videos of presentations and other resources online with the possibility also of a discussion forum.
